Charity Fundraising Review 2019
2019 was a fantastic year for many reasons. We had two great seasons where we enjoyed lots of hiking in the summer and took advantage of those oh so wonderful powder days in winter. Along the way, we met lots of fantastic guests and were lucky enough to introduce some new incredible staff members to our team!
Another reason why 2019 was such a special year to us, was because we hosted and took part in various charity events, raising money to help a number of causes that we care about. We believe it’s so important that we give back to charities, especially if we’re financially able to. Even if you’re not financially stable enough to donate, you could always organize a fundraiser to help a charity of your choice. By choosing one of the best crowdfunding sites, you should be able to easily give back to one of your favorite charities. For inspiration of what you could do to raise money, have a look at some of the things we’ve been doing recently.

The Alpine challenge – in support of snow camp
In January 2019, Team Morzine Source Magazine x Morgan Jupe kicked off the year by taking part in the epic AJ Bell Alpine Challenge. This team event challenged teams of 4 riders to clock up 150KM+ of GPS tracked skiing or boarding over 2 action packed days across the massive Portes du Soleil ski area, navigating to as many checkpoints as possible across each of the 15 ski resorts. It was all about strategy, stamina, teamwork, good fun and of course supporting the inspiring work of snowsports youth charity Snow-Camp!
Snow-Camp is the UK’s only registered charity using a unique combination of skiing, snowboarding, life-skills sessions and vocational opportunities to support and empower inner-city young people.
And guess what … we won! Very deservingly, we received 22 donations from generous sponsors and, along with our £400 entry fee (sponsored by Morzine Source Magazine), managed to raise £2,006.58 (including gift aid) for this fantastic charity.

charity golf day – in support of steps2recovery
On Saturday September 27th, we sponsored and hosted our second annual charity golf day in support of Steps2Recovery. The golf day was a fantastic event, held at Burhill Golf Club, a championship course located in a leafy parkland setting on the outskirts of Surrey’s Walton on Thames. It has two spectacular golf courses offering a challenging and diverse experience for the seasoned golfer, making it the perfect venue for our event.
The day consisted of coffee & bacon rolls upon arrival, 18 holes, course challenges such as ‘beat the pro’ and ‘longest drive’, a two-course lunch, a prize giving ceremony, speeches and a live auction.
With a combination of entry fees and the generous prizes given for the live auction we managed to raise a total of £11,062.50 (including gift aid).
The fantastic charity which we raised this money for provides therapeutic and practical support to help ex-offenders with addiction issues break away from drug and drink related offending and towards long term, abstinence-based recovery.
We couldn’t be happier with the turnout and success of our Charity Golf Day. A big thankyou to everyone involved, especially Morzine Source Magazine, Alex at White properties and Austin James Decor for sponsoring the event, along with those that took part and donated fantastic auction prizes.
Finally, a big congratulations to The Alastair Fox time for winning the event, The Bandits for coming second place and The Big Yellow Team in third place.
If you’re interested in taking part in next year’s event, which will be held on 18th September at the same location, then please get in touch!
prize donation to the scope charity auction – alpine luxury chalet holiday
SCOPE are a well known disability equality charity in England and Wales, who provide practical information and emotional support when it’s most needed, campaigning relentlessly to create a fairer society. Fairness with disabilities can help them feel more included with things going on around them. There is an article here by manning.com that discuss inclusivity with different abilities in relation to media, being online, etc. whilst dealing with a disability.
Last November they hosted a gala dinner with a live auction, to which we donated one of our alpine luxury chalet holidays. Our prize raised £9,000 for SCOPE and we are over the moon! We look forward to meeting the winners in March this year during their holiday to Chalet Chardon.
prize donation to disability sports uk for disabled snow sports equipment
In recent years we have become aware that whilst there are a good number of adaptive-qualified ski instructors here in Morzine and Les Gets, unfortunately there isn’t much equipment available for them to use with skiers who need it.
Over the course of the summer, we worked with Sally from The Snow Institute to find a solution to this problem and are delighted to announce that at the start of 2020, one of our private British chalet owners in Morzine very kindly donated £2,000 in order to purchase two pieces of specialist “sit-ski” equipment.
This will enable adults and children with physical disabilities visiting Morzine-Les Gets to experience this fantastic sport, with the help of a qualified instructor. We look forward to continuing to work The Snow Institute (as well as our other local ski school partners) and Disability Snowsports UK to help raise awareness and provide essential information to those with disabilities who are keen to ski in the area.
the total
The total we raised in 2019 for our charities was £23,669.08 (plus undisclosed personal donations from Directors). Let’s see if we can beat this total next year! This won’t be easy, but we’re going to do everything in our power to achieve it. Even if it means creating our own custom water bottles, with the help of places like Custom Water, (https://customwater.com/) to help with the promotional side of our charities, and getting the word out, then this is what we’ll do. Every little helps after all, and if that means we can raise even more money for these charities, then we’re helping the lives of many different people. And there is no greater feeling than that. So, next year, please donate what you can.
