Our Favourite Mountain Restaurants for Skiers
la paika, les gets
Whether the snow is falling or you’re taking full advantage of a blue bird day, La Paika is one of the perfect places to eat in the Portes du Soleil, as you can ski over to it via the blue Varosses piste. On a warm day, you can sit on the terrace and enjoy a winter BBQ of your dreams, with delicious prawns or a juicy steak whilst you take in the view.
If it’s a ‘sitting inside’ kinda day, then you also won’t be disappointed! La Paika’s quirky chalet feel combines cosines and class after a day on the slopes. Be sure to try one of their famous hot chocs before you leave!
It is also possible to snowshoe here from Les Gets. Don’t hesitate to ask us for more information about this!
The Cookie Cafe one of the most popular places to eat in the Portes du Soleil. It is the highest restaurant at 2227 metres, located right in the heart of the famous ski area. This ‘must visit’ cafe has easy access to and from Morzine, Champery, Chatel, Les Gets, Morgins and Avoriaz.
Here you can choose from Swiss Gourmet Burgers, Homemade Soups, Pizzas and Salads. Fresh Pressed Juices, Shakes, Craft Swiss Beers, Wines and probably the best Coffee this side of the Mont Blanc!
Take a break from skiing and relax in the chill out lounge or enjoy the vibe on a sunny day on the terrace.
le leiche, plain dranse, chatel
Located on the very edge of the Planse Dranse area, Le Leiche is the perfect morning coffee stop if you’re skiing into Chatel or doing the famous Portes du Soleil loop! As soon as you enter you’ll be welcomed by a roaring fire and rustic atmosphere of the alm.
If you stop by later in the day, then you can enjoy a scrumptious lunch of real mountain food to set you up for the rest of your ski day.
le toupin, les crosets (switzerland)
Nestled on the ski slopes between Les Crosets and Ripaille, Le Toupin is said to be one of the best lunch stops and favourite places to eat in the Portes du Soleil, so why not go see for yourself? Soak up the charm of this traditional restaurant whilst enjoying mouth wateringly delicious food. We personally recommend the confit duck leg with honey sauce served with lovely crisp French fries.
The service here is always next to none and Miriam and her team will make sure customers leave with full tummies and smiling faces. Please note, it is best to book, especially if it’s too cold to sit outside.
le courbeau, morgins (switzerland)
If great views and fantastic food are your thing, then Le Corbeau is the lunch stop for you! You’ll find it tucked away away down the blue run leading down into Morgins village. Make some time to visit Le Corbeau and experience one of the best fondues in the French Alps!
These are just some of our favourite mountain restaurants that we love to ski to. Of course, the Portes du Soleil is so big that there are many more!
